Every tier streams the full audio data. We never apply psychoacoustic reduction. Here is what that looks like in practice.
A 320kbps MP3 file discards roughly 90% of the original audio data using psychoacoustic masking. You may not notice the individual artefacts, but the cumulative effect over a full album is a listening fatigue that is real and measurable.
With FLAC, every sample in the recording reaches your DAC or headphones unchanged. On a good pair of headphones — or a home stereo — the difference is audible within 30 seconds.
